Real People Following Jesus in our Real Lives
We certainly have a great view of a good part of the town of Cochrane
from the windows in our church from our location up on the side of the
hill.
It is an amazing sight. The blue (and in the winter - blue and white)
mountains in the distance, the beautiful valley below, and in and
around that valley - our town.
What do we see when we look at this town? Well the incredible natural
setting I mentioned...for which we are always grateful. We also see a
town full of businesses - and mostly households - full of ordinary people
living out their daily lives.
There's lots of joy there; there's love and warmth and laughter in
these households. There is busyness, sometimes, and the daily grind.
There is grief and dissapointment. There is stress. There is
commitment and good will. There are young kids and there are
grandparents and great-grand parents. There is us - that is real
ordinary people.
For 2000 years or so, these kind of people are the vast majority of
people who have followed Jesus...not great saints or famous leaders
but people like this...like us.
And this is what they have found - that following Jesus makes us more
real and true and human. It is what it means to be fully human. It
brings beauty and order and dignity into our lives. It opens our lives
to God's presence.
We have found that God has wired us ordinary human beings to follow
Jesus - who is the perfect human being and who is God Himself.
So here we are an imperfect community of the imperfect who want to
live our real lives following this person in lives just like yours.
And we have a message...doing so opens a door between God's presence
and our ordinary lives. Jesus is that door.
If you are an ordinary person with ordinary joys and struggles - come
on in...there is someone who wants to welcome you...someone we'd like
you to meet.
