The services of Holy Week are a great treasure of the church year. You are strongly encouraged to attend the service of the Great Triduum - the Three Great Days: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday - as preparation for the celebration of Easter.
Thursday, April 2, 7pm - Maundy Thursday - a commemoration of Jesus' last supper with the washing of his disciples' feet, the institution of the Eucharist, and a stripping of the altar which signifies Jesus' agony in the garden, his betrayal and arrest. The service is preceded by a potluck supper at 5:45pm.
Friday, April 3, 11:15am - Good Friday - a solemn service picking up the story of Christ's passion with his trial, humiliation, and crucifixion. This is a traditional day of fasting, and making an act of devotion at the foot of the cross.
Saturday, April 4, 8pm - Easter Vigil - the most dramatic service of the church year as we move from the darkness and disorientation of the death of the Messiah to the light and joy of the first Eucharist of Easter and the celebration of the resurrection. Included in this service is the blessing of the Paschal (Easter) candle and the renewal of baptismal vows.
These three services are really one as time slows down and we walk with Christ on the road of suffering so that we may also join fully with him in the resurrection life.
