Dear friends,

It was wonderful to see so many of you both at church on Easter Sunday and also (for those who were not able to attend) on Good Friday when you came and took home the Blessed Sacrament so that you too could make your Easter communion. It was a real joy and sign of good things to come.

Unfortunately the now wide spread and highly contagious COVID 19 variants mean that the cases of COVID in Alberta have suddenly spiked and we are aware of how dangerous these variants are showing to be. As a result of this knowledge that we have received from the Provincial authorities, the Archbishop would like us to temporarily pause in-person services for the time being.

As we know, we are reaching a critical juncture where vaccinations will soon make it possible for us to begin to return to more a normal life. In the short meantime we will take one more (our last God-willing) pause. Our Good Friday event showed us that we can distribute holy communion and we will plan to do this again in the near future. Perhaps outside events may be possible as well. We will also look into this.

I know this is a frustrating time for all of us. But St Paul encourages us to “redeem the time” that applies especially to periods of waiting.

In the meantime I encourage all of us to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest Romans 13, which St Paul issued as as a commandment

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God (and he goes on).

This command applies to whether we or not we are in full agreement with said authorities, which we may well not be. God will bless us for his faithfulness to his Word even when we may object.

God Bless you and I look forward to meeting again in the near future.
